FRIENDS OF THE BUFFALO STORY
Buffalo People: Past, Present & Future
Canalside
Friends of the Buffalo Story is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the city’s history and heritage, that develops history programming, publication, and interpretive exhibits at Canalside.
The Lloyd Street Ruins sit astride the sacred site of Buffalo’s history; the junction of the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes. It is here, at a place that is still there, that one of the greatest developments in the history not only of Buffalo, but of the whole nation, took place.
To honor that and to learn from it, the Friends of the Buffalo Story, with generous support from the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, the John R. Oishei Foundation, the Baird Foundation, and the New York Council of the Arts, presented a summer long series of events and programs in 2014 that celebrated this history and this site and in the process brought to the attention of the public the lasting importance of The Ruins and the Commercial Slip in the development of our city and our nation.
